General Information

The Cascade Kids Fiddle camp is a day camp for kids ages 7 to 18. It is open to all skill levels and is designed to teach your student about fiddling and its many joys. Our goal with this camp is to impart a love of fiddling that our staff shares and a passion for folk music that will last them a lifetime.

Our staff for 2018 is made up of some of the most inspired and passionate folk musicians and teachers in North America. We wanted to bring together a group of teacher musicians that not only represent the best at their instruments but that have a passion for music and teaching that is contagious. Betse Ellis is one of the most powerful players in the world and her passion for old-time music is unmatched. Clark Wyatt's teaching of backup rhythm not only encompasses the fundamentals of playing but also incorporates a deep rooted respect and love of music that you can't help but be inspired by. Shelby Rae Murdocks family and personal musical background make her one of the most sought after young teachers in the north west and her work with kids is unparalleled. Louise Steinway has been teaching kids and playing fiddle music since she was a kid and her passion and joy in the music will have her students toes tapping.

Our camp this year will be held August 6-10 in Great Falls, Montana at The Ursuline Center. More information on the schedule, venue, instructors, and class offerings can be found above.

All teaching materials (music etc.) will be provided. Video and audio recording is highly encouraged and a smart phone or recorder is recommended for all classes.

With registration students will receive a camp t-shirt, camp water bottle, full day of class (9:30-4:00), and lunch.

Registration is limited to fifty students. Students may be of any skill level and is open to ages 7-18. Classes will be sorted by ability and instrument, not by age. When registration is full a waiting list will be started and students admitted as available.

Scholarships are available in limited quantities from local non-profits and individuals. (see registration page for more information)

Family Discounts are available for multiple siblings attending (see registration page for details)

Volunteering opportunities are available. Please email us if you are interested in helping us put on this great camp.

Lunches

We will be serving lunch each day. Lunches will be made with locally sourced ingredients prepared daily. We can accommodate most dietary restrictions and allergies. Please indicate on the registration form and dietary requirements and we will contact you to make sure your student is served something they will enjoy.

What To Bring To Class

Your instrument- Please make sure you have a functional instrument in good playing condition. If you are in need of an instrument just let us know.

A recording device- Smart phones with a voice recorder or video camera work best but anything that can capture sound will do.

Glasses- If you need them.

Water Bottle- Each student will be given a water bottle at registration and we request that you bring them to each session. It is summer time and we hate to see a student miss their music because they are dehydrated.

A good attitude- This goes a long way to a great experience. Make sure your student comes ready to learn and that they want to be there.
